Chomkel

Chomkel is the northwestern wool country around Chomtholk, rising toward the Vargate and the foothills of the Spine. Its dense-fleeced Chomkel sheep make the kingdom's second export after grain, its brewing barley makes Aldmere's ale, and its rooks follow the plow in black flocks. It is also the heartland of the Gray Choir, the apocalyptic Hearthfaith sect that sings in the streets at dawn and refuses to sow winter wheat, which is why the Lord Chancellor watches the province's harvests closely. Like the other northern shires, it was hard hit by the Hrodvald raids that followed the Great Winter of 1089.
