Lasdara Country

The old Lasdara country is the deep cork-oak country of southern Castavar, now the Berrode's southern diocese of Lasdara. The Grove of Lasdara keeps the gods Castavar outlawed after 312 here, among them the olive, the bull, the river and the spring rain. Its rites are held at night in cork-oak groves, with masks and the bull, and the Maskers who keep them are farmers who inherit the mask. In some villages every family is Grove and every priest a Masker under the cassock, about 80,000 believers in all, and the Office of Truth has stopped going. Brother Talvo's life's work is a file on them. If Castavar breaks, these villages will be a tribe by the next harvest.
