River Wenvorm

The Wenvorm, "the golden river," rises in the Karzhan Spine near the Dunmorrow holds and runs east through Aldmere, under Hethlend's seven-arched bridge, to empty into Lake Surmave. It is the most important trade artery on the continent, and with the lake it forms the Golden Road; Drift barge-towns ride it, and their Helms meet each spring at the Wenvorm mouth. The Aldmere myth says Old Mother Ember kept the first fire in a hut on its banks. It gives its name to the red-brown Wenvorm ox, the river trout, herons, mayflies, oaks and wild boar that kill a hunter or two a year, and its swans belong to the king. Its spring flood brought down Hethlend's timber bridge in 231.
