Caravans carry spices, pepper from the Nhal, dates, incense, salt and silk between fortified caravanserais, and every one gives the Salt Gift at each city gate. Mozaaft of the Deep Sands has its routes tattooed on his forearms in caravan-masters' code, and Zesose the Wheel runs a rogue caravan on it that takes sides for pay. ---
