The Surmave Delta

The delta at the southern end of Lake Surmave is a maze of reed islands and channels, and the heart of Caelvenne. Solvaine was built across forty of its islands on pilings driven into the reed marsh. Its fishermen and glassworkers are the core of the Drowned Court, whose followers tie a knotted cord to every boat and will not swim at night. The reed channels yield delta eels, the white Solvaine lily from which the Valcroix lily comes, white delta ibis, and the spotted heron-cat of the reed islands; in bad summers the delta mosquito carries the lake fever.
