The Holy Crown of Castavar

The fourth of the great powers, about five million people, holds the southwest: sun-baked hills, olive groves, vineyards, the River Llovo valley, silver mountains and a long ocean coast. It is a feudal monarchy fused with the church of the Berrode of the Solitary God. The king rules with the Grandees above the minor nobility, the masesben, and the Rislo sits at his right hand with a veto over matters of faith. In 1146 the king is Dobarmo IV deso Grarañe, and the realm's policy is set in all but name by Rislo Litoto. Castavar fields the best heavy cavalry on the continent, the ratorlon squares of pike and crossbow, and the only true ocean-going navy. It mints more silver than any other realm and still owes Caelvenne, and three crusades against Zarvand, in 699–701, 866–868 and 1139, have failed, and Litoto now preaches a Fourth that Farisel refuses to finance.
