Venei's Throat

Venei's Throat is the army pass across the Spine between the Westmarch and the Greenwarden, reached by the road from Hethlend through Codtholk and Durtisir. In 734 a Castavari logging company entered the forest through it with an armed escort of two hundred, and none returned; the Waheli nailed the escort's shields to the trees at the forest's edge, and they are still there. The Waheli tell their children the men were "invited to stay" and the shields are their place-markers. Under the Bridge Treaty of 1052 it is Aldmere's to garrison, and Duke Durift's Westmarch collects its tolls. The Dunmorrow hold of Under-Venei lies beneath it, the Venei Grove stands near it, and Maesra of the Edge watches its road.
